“They come to claim us for their dark masters, . . . ”
And leading the way are the Greater Daemons. And more often than not leading my army will be a Kipper, or Keeper of Secrets to give it its proper name. Just add “Siren Song” and the broken “Torment Blade” and you are good to go.
My second choice Greater Daemon would be the Lord of Change. Mine was painted a long time ago and is showing signs of her age. Her base could also do with an update to bring her in line with the rest of the army. At the moment she’s on the lighter coloured base because she was originally used with my Chaos Space Marines.
I’ve recently acquired a third Greater Daemon; this Bloothirster. I’ve never used it in battle, but one of my club mates was about to put it on eBay and I took it off his hands. It doesn’t match my colour scheme, so he may get rebased if and when I do the Lord of Change.
There’s also a Daemon Prince somewhere, which I’ll photograph and add once I’ve found him.
Although I’m not a fan of the recent slew of special characters, and their attendant power creep, there’s no good reason not to own the Skulltaker model. OK, so you’ll probably never field him as a standard herald on foot, and you’ve got to ask why they didn’t put him on a Juggernaut, but he’s a joy to paint.
I was quite pleased with how the flaming skull came out. Especially when you consider I did not spend much time on this model at all. Indeed he was painted along with 20 Bloodletters in less than a day.
Blue Scribes – being built
One of the most under-costed Special Character in the Daemons of Chaos army list is the Masque of Slaanesh. On the surface she seems harmless enough, but a closer look at her special abilities and the potential abuses come to the fore. Can we say Leadership bomb?
I don’t think the model is one of GW’s best by any stretch of the imagination. It could probably be made to look an awful lot better with a patient paint job, but I didn’t feel inspired enough to do that and gave her a very quick and dirty one instead.
Other Heralds – coming soon
Bloodletters – coming soon
The Pink Horrors of Tzeentch can take a special character unit upgrade “The Changeling”. GW don’t do an actual Changeling model, so I turned to a model from the Hell Dorado range. The model I chose is called babul. It’s skin-shedding perfectly matches how I envisaged the Changeling’s special ability of exchanging stats with an opponent.
As with most of the special characters in the Daemons book – he’s a bit broken, as he can completely neutralise most combat heroes.
Plauguebearers – I have some unpainted ones somewhere
Daemonettes – coming soon
Chaos Furies – coming soon
As you can see I’ve gone for a fairly plain paint job. The Red is built up from GW Foundation paint Mechrite Red, whilst the Gold is built up from my rapidly dwindling stock of the old GW Brazen Brass. I do hope they bring back this colour soon, but I won’t hold my breath.
Screamers – I have some unbuilt ones somewhere. Dreadful models, almost impossible to construct well enough that they’ll survive the rigours of gaming.
Seekers of Slaanesh – coming soon
Flamers – coming soon
Beasts of Nurgle –
Fiends of Slaanesh –
